Visited the back street with friends . The food was pre ordered due to it being December and was very enjoyable However we waited nearly an hour for our main... read more course . The service was slow and it did not appear to be due to the fact the restaurant was busy . The staff were standing around talking to one another someone really needs to co ordinate front of house staff , to speed things up . We were passing through Dumfries. A quick look through trip advisor saw this had 100% positive reviews, so we booked a table for 8pm on a Saturday night, in January.... read more Not the most salubrious entrance, but go with it and you are welcomed into a bright bustling restaurant. It was busy, but well spaced. Staff were brilliant, really attentive and they were kept busy all night as the restaurant was full. Fab atmosphere.
As for the food, what can I say…another 5 star review. Fresh, innovative, tasty and presented beautifully. Not only that but the most reasonably priced restaurant. I had the Brie to start, followed by the burger then finished with white chocolate rice pudding. My partner had scallops, followed by seafood linguine and chocolate brownie. With drinks and water came to under £70. Incredible value.
A real gem of a restaurant. Thanks for a lovely evening. If we didn’t live so far away I guarantee we would be regulars. Keep up the amazing work.

I heard good things about this restaurant before making the journey to dine with a friend. I started off with the Breaded Brie which were overcooked and hollow. Then had... read more the “famous” chicken Kiev, there’s nothing famous about it. It was tough with the tiniest bit of tasteless garlic butter in about a 3rd of the whole thing. On the plus side of it all, the home made sticky toffee pudding was to die for and the service was ok. But unfortunately, I probably won’t be making the trip again.

I came to The Backstreet Restaurant recently with my partner. We noticed that the restaurant was well equipped with hand sanitiser and the tables were spaced out well which made... read more us feel very relaxed under the current circumstances.
We were welcomed into the restaurant by a polite young lady. We were shown to our table and filled in our track and trace form.
The menu had a wide selection with something available for everyone. I had the Buffalo mozzarella tomato salad which was delicious, the dish was also presented extremely well. My partner had the vodka cured trout which again was amazing. Very reasonably priced too!
We had a bottle of wine between us with our meal. The lady at the bar had a great knowledge on the wine and recommended an orange wine to us. The restaurant offers a wine of the month which we had the option to choose from a red, white or orange wine. As we had never tasted an orange wine before we decided to go for the Enblanco de AltoLandon. This wine was very easy to drink with some plum notes.
For mains we had the Beef Burger which my wife said was the best burger ever. I had the Lamb rump and I can honestly say I’ve never tasted a falafel or parsley sauce that’s tasted so good. A very talented chef!
We both had Banana Split for pudding which again was presented brilliantly. We watered this down with two pornstar martinis which are the best we’ve ever had.
The staff were all extremely friendly, we were served by the young male waiter. He was a delight and looked after us through the evening. The staff are a credit to this restaurant as every one of them were very polite and knowledgeable of the menus. The chef deserves a big mention as we watched different dishes coming out and everything looked so professional, we will definitely have to come back to try more.
