No dining experience would be complete without the perfect drink, and at The Back Street we’ve got you covered. Whether it be wine, local ale, one of our many gins or a cocktail and coffee after dinner, you’re sure to not be disappointed.
I was trying to find adequate wording that would express how much I enjoyed my burger. I realised that being a big fan of Gordon Ramsay and a follower of... read more all his YouTube cooking videos the best way I could sum up my experience would be this:
Ramsay would be proud.
Requested the burger a very specific way & it was delivered to me matching my description to the very tomato.
Can’t speak highly enough of the overall experience, must be tough operating a restaurant during covid but the place was spotless, all of the servers wearing PPE & following all guidelines.
If you are from Dumfries, holidaying there or just passing through - as I was - I 100% recommend dining here.
A great meal for our group of 6 to celebrate a 21st birthday. The menu is varied and fully catered for my gluten free diet. The starters were very generous... read more portions, as were the mains. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service, imaginative menu and good value. Plan a return visit when next in the area.
We were in the area for a few days and decided to visit for dinner and I’m so glad we did. The food was fantastic! We both had the haggis... read more scotch eggs for starters, which were cooked to perfection, with a golden runny yolk.
I had the steak of the day (sirloin) and my partner had chicken supreme. The steak was cooked exactly how I’d asked and the chips were crispy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside and were clearly not the frozen variety you get in bigger chains. The chicken supreme was beautifully cooked and tasted brilliant, although my partner did have food envy when she saw the macaroni being served at another table.
We decided to order deserts and had the chocolate brownie and lemon posset. Again these were great, with the right balance of sweetness and not too bitter with the lemon, clean plates all round again.
The covid protocols were all adhered to and the spacing between table added to a feeling of safety.
All of the staff we spoke to were friendly, attentive and made sure that nothing was ever a problem. They are a real credit to the restaurant and made an already brilliant experience even better.
Despite it being a 150 mile round trip to come back again, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll definitely be visiting again sooner rather than later.
Yet another great meal at the backstreet, I had the flat iron steak for my main and was cooked to perfection, my wife had duck for her main and it... read more was also cooked to perfection, no room for a pudding but managed a couple of cocktails, the Pina colada was beautiful, very well presented.
All staff very attentive and polite
Husband and I went here for dinner tonight and it was excellent. Breaded brie and Turkey croquettes for starters were amazing. Chicken supreme and burger were excellent. Compliments to William... read more the chef and all the waiting staff. Highly recommend and not to be missed.
I organised and attended a ‘retirement do’ at the back street. They went above and beyond to make the organisation smooth..The staff are friendly and make a fantastic cocktail (or... read more 5!). Everyone loved the food and warm environment. Super impressed, as a large party, that each course arrived at the same time for everyone. Thank you again.
I recently visited the back street with a friend after telling them all about my favourite restaurant. The scotch egg, brilliant as always. I had the chicken kiev for main... read more which is served with the tastiest macaroni. Pudding we both had the brownie. I enjoyed an espresso martini and my friend a porn star martini made by the friendliest bar staff.
Super as always
Thank you Team Back Strest
We had an amazing meal at the back street. The menu is fantastic, I wanted to order everything! Lovely service from staff too. I will be back very soon!
This place is amazing! Visited with a friend tonight and had the spring rolls, mac 'n' cheese and the chocolate brownie...can't fault a single thing, was amazing! Tastiest meal I've... read more had in a looong time. As for the cocktails...Best I've ever had. Staff are friendly, atmosphere is lovely. If you haven't visited this place, you need to!
I have been to the Backstreet several times at night and have enjoyed a good cross section of the menu so I decided to try Sunday lunch - of course... read more I went for the roast beef! I missed the starter and thought main and sweet and I was not disappointed - beef can be hit or miss but this was superb very tender and full of flavour (aparently slow cooked overnight!) and the cauliflower cheese side was ridiculous...I'm not too keen on cauliflower but this was delicious...oh and first class roast potatoes. Definately a Sunday option again...maybe next week!
Came here on a recommendation of a family member we were visiting in Dumfries. It certainly didn't disappoint.
2meter spacing between all tables a great change from the restaurants trying... read more to cram as many in. Service was attentive by a young girl. An older lady behind the bar making some fabulous cocktails also took time to chat and have a laugh with us. Great friendly vibe.
Previously mentioned cocktails out of this world.
Starters took around 10 minutes to arrive from ordering. Very good for a busy Saturday night. All obviously homemade. Scotch eggx3 and carpaccio at the table to start. Venisonx2 chicken and steak for main.
Absolutely phenomenonal. Presentation, flavour, you'd struggle to find a meal this good in Glasgow.
One cheeseboard to share and a brownie for dessert scoffed down before a cocktail before leaving.
Amazing staff, amazining food and a great space upstairs, even if we did get lost trying to find it!
10/10
Have been twice now with my partner and will definitely be back another time. First visit was for dinner and we both enjoyed it, while we recently went for Sunday... read more lunch. My portion of mussels and clams was fantastic and my partner enjoyed her Sunday roast - even if I did steal her cauliflower cheese.
