The Back Street – Casual dining in Dumfries

Best burger and brownie I have ever had, and I have had a few. Burger was full of flavour and bun was amazing. Chips were perfect too, crispy and fluffy.

Wow. What an amazing find and why isn’t this place number 1 to eat in Dumfries!?!

Took my Nana (89 year old doonhammer) and Girlfriend here (we travelled from London).

Place is Covid safe, all courses were fantastic and the waiting staff were lovely.

Will visit again the next time I am in Dumfries.

As usual an excellent meal.

The cocktails are delicious

Came here on a recommendation of a family member we were visiting in Dumfries. It certainly didn't disappoint.

2meter spacing between all tables a great change from the restaurants trying to cram as many in. Service was attentive by a young girl. An older lady behind the bar making some fabulous cocktails also took time to chat and have a laugh with us. Great friendly vibe.

Starters took around 10 minutes to arrive from ordering. Very good for a busy Saturday night. All obviously homemade. Scotch eggx3 and carpaccio at the table to start. Venisonx2 chicken and steak for main.

Absolutely phenomenonal. Presentation, flavour, you'd struggle to find a meal this good in Glasgow.

One cheeseboard to share and a brownie for dessert scoffed down before a cocktail before leaving.

Amazing staff, amazining food and a great space upstairs, even if we did get lost trying to find it!

2nd visit to this lovely wee restaurant.

Good choice on menu.

Chicken Kiev was perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. Macaroni was delicious.

Good selection of gins.

First time here and overall enjoyed the night, especially the food. They have a wide choice of gluten-free dishes which pleased my wife who is celiac.

The room is large and a bit noisy and sometimes quite hard to hear each other talk, could maybe do with some sort of sound reduction.

The food was excellent I had the burger which was really tasty along with fries. What can I say about the fries they were absolutely delicious. The wife had the duck which she said melted in her mouth.

Thought the wine prices were a bit high for a so-so Chardonnay. Another wee quibble was the serviette's tiny wee things could either do with larger paper ones or have material ones, which can really make a difference to the overall feel of a restaurant. The waitress did supply an extra serviette when requested.

One thing to consider is that the restaurant is up 3 sets of steps with no lift which makes it difficult for anyone with a disability.

Very attentive staff. Main courses great. Sides delicious. There was a slight issue with our bill being over charged but after an email - William very swiftly rectified the issue and we received a very prompt refund. Definitely worth a 5* review for that.

It’s a good, honest restaurant.

No frills, friendly staff and well-cooked food offering great value for money.

Huge, meaty, expertly cooked sea bass for £16. A very generous seafood linguine for £14.

It’s no wonder the restaurant was full – it deserves to be supported.

Had especially booked a night of so i could come enjoy Steak Night.. was absolutely amazing! Famous Haggis Scotch egg for starter, cooked to perfection with a gooey middle, then the star of the night.. 16oz sirlion to share, served exactly how we like it, cheesy macaroni, chunky chips, diane/pepper sauce.. so tasty! Could only manage to share a tiramisu for dessert.. great value for money.. and the staff are amazing!! Highly recommend

My partner and I came here for a date night and were delighted with the food and experience. My boyfriend had the haggis scotch egg for starter which was amazing, he then had the beef feather blade and mustard mash which he said was the nicest dish he’d ever eaten. 10/10. I’m vegetarian so I had the lentil beetroot burger which was amazing and filling. Lovely atmosphere, amazing food and really friendly staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! Don’t miss out.

All appropriate COVID measures were in place . The food was absolutely superb . The four of us all had something different and we could not find fault with anything . The service was friendly and helpful . We will certainly be returning

We ate at the Back Street midweek getting a break from the kids and it was fantastic. Really efficient, attentive service and the food was probably some of the best I've had in Dumfries. The strawberry daiquiri as well was delicious. My husband ordered the back street stack burger which came with a fried chicken fillet, seriously they should consider selling that alone as a dish in mini fillet form because it was just sublime. My mac and cheese was hands down the best I've had eating out.

Will definitely be back for a visit again soon.

I have been to the Backstreet several times at night and have enjoyed a good cross section of the menu so I decided to try Sunday lunch - of course I went for the roast beef! I missed the starter and thought main and sweet and I was not disappointed - beef can be hit or miss but this was superb very tender and full of flavour (aparently slow cooked overnight!) and the cauliflower cheese side was ridiculous...I'm not too keen on cauliflower but this was delicious...oh and first class roast potatoes. Definately a Sunday option again...maybe next week!

Great food, brilliant service and the chefs were happy to accommodate special request for a part of a dessert my friend Helen and I loved our visit. There was a lovely buzz as it was busy even early in the evening. Lesley really looked after us. If you can visit you should.

Dumfries feels a bit run down but this restaurant was buzzing and served good food at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed our evening.
